Vice-President M Venkaiah Naidu termed the journalism to be a mission rather than commission.
He said that with time it is taking the form of an industry.
Gracing the convocation ceremony of the Kushabhau Thakre University of Journalism and Mass Communication in Raipur, he said that journalism’s credibility needs to be above questions.
Vice-President Naidu was speaking from the dais of Pt Deen Dayal Upadhyay auditorium within the Shashkiya Vigyan Mahavidyalaya premises.
He added that with the advent of television channels over past decade or two and subsequent development of the smartphones has created tremendous access to the technology in our times.
The Vice-President said that now it is upto us to construct information as well as convey it to the appropriate audience.
It is upto us now, he said, to decide on what is right is what is not.
The program was presided over by Chief Minister Dr Raman Singh.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Singh said that credibility of the news is in itself the crux of the journalism.
Chief Minister Dr Singh said that journalism is not mere about news spread but it also gives direction to the society at large.
In the convocation ceremony itself, 406 students were given out the degrees while 19 bagged the gold medal for their performance.
Chhattisgarh Assembly speaker Gauri Shankar Agrawal, Higher Education Minister Prem Prakash Pandey and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Ajay Chandrakar apart from Brijmohan Agrawal, Agriculture Minister as well as Ramesh Bais, the Raipur parliamentarian were also present.>
