Villagers never assign their heroes to oblivion. They hold their icon close to their hearts. People of Raytum village in Mahasamund district too proved that right when they gathered on Tuesday to pay homage to freedom fighter Khoobchand Baghel.
They held a public meeting in the form of traditional Chaupal. The program was organized by District Farmers’ Congress. Villagers dared heavy showers to participate in this Chaupal. Nothing would inhibit them from remembering the freedom fighter, whom they have almost worshipped for years.
Apart from paying homage to Khoobchand Baghel, the villagers also discussed ways to solve everyday problems they faced. Such discussions revolved more around the issues related to fencing of farmlands (Baadi), maintaining drainages (Narwa) in right form and disposing of everyday household wastes (Ghurwa) in a scientific manner.
District Farmers’ Congress president Laxman Patel, block president dron Chandrakar, district secretary Madan Patel, Raytum Sarpanch Raman Singh Thakur, Shyamalal and Chhavilal Thakur addressed the participating farmers. Villagers made the problems faced by them in daily lives known to the office bearers of District Farmers’ Congress and Panchayat members.
