West Bengal to be Renamed, Proposal will be Forwarded

The Legislative Assembly of West Bengal Assembly on Thursday passed a resolution to change the name of the state from West Bengal to 'Bangla'. Now, the proposal will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. If the Home Ministry agrees to the proposal, the name of the West Bengal will be changed to 'Bangla'.

The Legislative Assembly, of West Bengal Assembly passed a resolution to change the name of the state from West Bengal to ‘Bangla’. Now, the proposal will be forwarded to the Union Ministry of Home Affairs.

If the Home Ministry agrees to the proposal, the name of the West Bengal will be changed to ‘Bangla’.The resolution to change the name of the state was moved in the Legislative Assembly by the ruling Trinamool Congress government of Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee.

The resolution calls for changing the name of the state to “Bangla” in all languages.When the West Bengal government had last time sent the proposal, the Central government had sent it back that proposal had asked for the name to be changed to “Bengal” in English, “Bangla” in Bengali and “Bangal” in Hindi.

That resolution was passed on August 29, 2016. Taking into consideration the reservations expressed by the Centre, the Mamata Banerjee Cabinet had approved a resolution on September 8, 2017 calling for the name of the state to be changed to “Bangla” in all languages.
