With change in US policy, India could now acquire ‘armed drones’

The policy change now is that the export of unmanned aerial systems have been allowed to fulfill "'counter-terrorism objectives"

Now it is something that India has been eyeing for long and a recent policy change by the Donald Trump administration may soon provide scope for that to happen.

It is said that India would now be able to purchase hi-tech armed drones from the United States which would significantly make India’s counter-terrorism operations more effective.

It had earlier been reported that the Trump Administration was considering India’s request for armed drones for its air force even though the approval had come about for the sale of high-tech unarmed guardian drones to India.

The policy change now is that the export of unmanned aerial systems have been allowed to fulfill “‘counter-terrorism objectives”.

It is understood that Indian Air Force alone would procure 80 to 100 units o armed drones making it approximately a whopping multi-billion dollar deal.

The armed drone will also allow forces to strike the terrorists attempting to cross the border.
