With Padmavat release; protests held in many forms and sizes

Released on its due date, the Deepika Padukone-starrer Padmavat could not be screened as freely in some of the states including Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.

This due to the threats of violence and protests by right-wing fringe outfits alleging that the film distorted historical facts.

However, the protestors took to more peaceful means in Lucknow where they adopted ‘Gandhigiri’ and presented roses to moviegoers outside cinema halls requesting them not to watch Padmavat.

Some of the multiplexes had hired bouncers to prevent any untoward incidents during the screening of the film.

Protests in other parts of the country however were not so modest as was evident from the manner in which Saharsa BJP MLA Neeraj Kumar Singh Bablu brandished a sword as he led a group of protesters.

Similarly, the members of the Karni Sena and other right-wing outfits organized ‘Janata Curfew’ in Udaipur.
