Even as Nitish Kumar government in Bihar has received applause for its decision to ban liquor, an incident where a woman was set on fire because she supported liquor ban has raised questions over how effective the law and order situation is in Bihar for success of such a bold decision.
It so happened that a liquor businessman from Belagopi village in Muzzafarnagar district set on fire his wife and daughter because they refused to cooperate with him in his illicit business. The accused is said to be absconding but by the time the news spread to neighborhood, the two ladies had already suffered enough due to fire. Both of them collapsed as they were eventually taken to hospital. The accused has been identified as Gulab Singh, also a known liquor addict.
