World powers take note of India’s concerns as proposal to ban Masood Azhar to be placed

With stakes high now after India and Pakistan came close to a war like situation, the world powers have stood up and taken note.

It is in this context that the major powers including United States (US), United Kingdom (UK) and France have sought ban on Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM) chief Masood Azhar.

The three powers are to make a fresh proposal to the United Nations Security Council (UNSC).

The proposal comes amid calls from the international community to exercise restraint amid an escalation of the crisis between India and Pakistan in the last two days.

The proposal seeks to designate the Pakistan-based Azhar as a global terrorist –which, if passed, will impose a travel ban, freeze on assets and arms embargo among others.

A fresh proposal was moved by the three permanent members of the UNSC of the 15-nation international body.

If it materializes, it will be fourth such attempt by India’s allies in ten yeats to designate Azhar a global terrorist, a move that has
been constantly defeated by China.

The move will also force China to make its stand clear on the proposald as the recent JeM attack on a CRPF convoy in Pulwama claimed 40 CRPG troops.
