Youngsters arrested for disrupting namaz; villagers oppose arrest

The accused have been identified as all residents of nearby Wazirabad and Kanhai villages

Police have gone on to arrest six persons on the charge of disrupting “namaz” in Sector 53 here.

The incident is said to be of April 20 and it is said that those trying to disrupt were chanting “Jai Sri Ram” and “Radhey Radhey” on the spot.

The accused in the case have been identified as Arun, Manish, Deepak, Monu alias Nambardar, Mohit, and Ravinder.

The accused have been identified as all residents of nearby Wazirabad and Kanhai villages.

The arrest came about on the basis of a video of the incident that went viral last week.

In the video, they are seen asking Muslims to clear off the area.

Police have however dismissed the rumours that these boys have association with any pro-Hindu groups.

Last Friday around 3 pm, the six persons reached an open area opposite Saraswati Kunj, where about 50 men had gathered to offer “namaz”.

They raised slogans and disrupted the prayer.

A video of the incident purportedly show the accused telling Muslims to offer prayers in a mosque.

Villagers, however, are up in arms against the arrest of the accused.

They are demanding action against those who held illegal prayer meetings at the spot.
